Unaccompanied Alien Children foster homes are desperately needed. Perhaps you have heard in the news that our southern border is being inundated by children without their parents from South America. Hosanna is striving to provide fifty foster home beds for this humanitarian crisis. This is short-term (30 day) average care. While knowing the Spanish language is a big plus, don’t let the language issue be a barrier. Orientation and training for foster parents are being conducted by Hosanna on a continual basis until we can recruit the homes we need. Foster families can take from one to six kids with a maximum of two children per bedroom. You are paid $1,000.00 per child per month to provide this care. If you are interested or need more information, please email verne@HosannaHomes.org or call him at 510-329-8100

Work Party: There will be no work party on the third Saturday (July 19th). Next work party will be August 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a great family activity opportunity. To be placed on the work party notification email list, please reply to this email with the words “Work Party.”.

Specific foster homes needed:

Tuolumne County is seeking a home in the Pleasanton area for a 16 year old male who has had his parent’s rights terminated and desires a home near his aunt. This is a gentle well-mannered child who will undoubtedly remain with his foster family at least until he is 18 and perhaps until he is 21.

Contra Costa County is seeking a home for a set of siblings (male 9 and female 13) in the Concord/Pleasant Hills) area.

If you are interested in caring for these kids, Please email verne@HosannaHomes.org or call him at 510-329-8100.

Parent Project classes resume in September at Neighborhood Church, Castro Valley. The schedule for the academic year 2014/15 has not been finalized. If you would like to receive a copy of the schedule, please reply to this email: “Parent Project Schedule”.

Hosanna Boys’ Ranch on Crow Canyon Road in Castro Valley is seeking a married couple who would consider leasing the facility and would appreciate the opportunity to minister to six teen-aged boys in a farm setting. The ranch is on 90 acres, has an eight bedroom spacious ranch home, including a large recreation room and a swimming pool. The ideal couple would want to use the ranch for community youth outreaches and an opportunity to live on a working ranch. Interested parties should reply to this email with “Hosanna Boys Ranch” or call Verne Teyler at 510-329-8100.

LUCKY Stores S.H.A.R.E. cards are available to you and your friends. By use of the card when you shop at Lucky or FoodMax, you are supporting Hosanna with your food purchase dollars. Hosanna receives 3% of your purchase price. In other words, you pay no more for your groceries, but Hosanna receives 3% of your purchase. Please reply by email (verne@HosannaHomes.org) or phone toll free (1-800-DEAR KID 1-800-332-7543) and request your card.

Financial Support: Thanks to you who contribute directly by snail mail or web and those who donate through your church. Usually a church will forward designated offerings to Hosanna Homes. If you care to donate through your church, please do so but be sure you make arrangement with your church treasurer ahead of time. There is something extra special when we receive church donations, probably because we sense a broader support and appreciation for what we do. Whether you donate directly or indirectly, please realize we could not do what we do without your precious, prayerful support!!

Monthly Monitor–February 2014–Rescuing Kids and Critters

Foster Care for Military or Veteran Families

Hosanna has begun collaboration with Pathways for Veterans to provide specialized foster care for military family children who are dependents of the foster care system or wards of the juvenile justice system. Hosanna Boys’ Ranch will be the initial facility for placement as we develop more individual foster homes in our ten Bay Area County service area. The specialized services will include Parent Project (parenting skill training) for the parent(s) and a paraclete (come along side) community church: plus, Pathways for Veterans will assist in obtaining military and veteran available support services which may be available to either active or retired military or veteran personnel. Would you consider becoming a foster parent for a child of a military family? We have monthly foster parent training classes the first two Saturdays of each month. Please respond to info@HosannaHomes.org if you would consider foster parenting.

Critter Rescue

Rescuing farm type critters has been a part of Hosanna Boys’ Ranch and Hosanna Girl’s Ranch programs since our inception. Bringing the kids and critters together has been such a natural and mutually beneficial fit. The combination has been remarkable and invaluable!! Sustaining the critters with food, shelter and veterinary expenses is always a challenge, so we ask our Hosanna friends to please remember these expenses when you financially support our efforts. For those in the community who need to find a new home for their critter (pet), we ask them to provide a $20.00 initial fee, and then we cover the expenses thereafter. Similarly, if someone is seeking a particular type critter, we ask for a $20.00 re-homing fee. Otherwise, we trust our Hosanna friends to support this very valuable community outreach.

Opportunity Available

Hosanna is in need of a volunteer who knows QuickBooks and who would be available probably once per week to keep our accounting records up-to-date.

Work Party

Every third Saturday of each month is a “Work Party” day, which starts at 8:00 am (although you don’t have to arrive that early) and usually ends at noon; however, some guys and gals are known to volunteer the whole day. Our next work party is March 22nd at which time we need volunteers with chain saws and skill saws to turn our scrap lumber into firewood at Hosanna Boys’ Ranch, 9990 Crow Canyon Rd., Castro Valley. If you care to participate, let us know (verne@hossannahomes.org or 510-329-8100) and we’ll put you on a reminder list so that you receive a reminder or advance word of the event. Please don’t feel compelled to participate, other than at the level which is comfortable for you.

Parent Project

An opportunity for parents and grandparents to establish a basic faith-based foundation for managing children. The Biblical mandate for a proper personal spiritual foundation is equally true for a spiritual family foundation. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!! Get parenting right in the beginning and the subsequent adventure will still be challenging, but will be so much more calm and fruitful. Most parents who attend are already in crisis and the task to unlearn our child(ren’s) bad behavior is a geometric process. This series is for parents at any stage of family life. If you observe disturbing attitudes and behaviors in your young child or grandchild, don’t wait to get help and support. Parent Project is a teaching and a support group. Please visit Parent Project for classes in your local area. If your church would co-sponsor these classes, please let Verne know and he’ll attempt to provide a ten-week training at your church.
